WMT ECHO-1010 Enclosed Waterjet to Beijing, Supporting Precision Quartz Glass Cutting

Posted by wm

Recently, WAMI completed the factory commissioning and acceptance of a WMT ECHO-1010 enclosed ultra-high-pressure waterjet cutting machine, which has now been shipped to a quartz glass manufacturer in Beijing for the precision cutting of quartz glass products. This marks another milestone in WAMI’s delivery of customized cutting equipment tailored to the needs of glass processing customers.

Quartz glass is characterized by high hardness, high brittleness, and excellent heat resistance, and is widely used in optics, semiconductors, photovoltaics, and laboratory equipment. However, these material properties also present significant challenges in cutting. Conventional mechanical cutting methods are prone to edge and corner chipping and can introduce micro-cracks within the glass. Certain thermal processing methods introduce thermal stress into the material, which may cause latent damage during subsequent use or processing, compromising yield rates and product reliability. In addition, the cutting of complex and irregular contours places higher demands on the accuracy and flexibility of cutting equipment.

To address these challenges, the WMT ECHO-1010 delivered this time employs ultra-high-pressure waterjet cutting technology operating as a “cold cutting” process. Because waterjet cutting produces no heat-affected zone, no thermal stress is generated within the glass, which reduces defects such as edge chipping and micro-cracks at the source, produces smooth, clean cut surfaces, visibly improves edge quality, and effectively raises yield rates. At the same time, waterjet cutting offers strong versatility and flexibility, capable of handling straight-line, curved, and complex irregular contour cutting of quartz glass, giving customers greater possibilities in expanding their product range.

During the equipment design and development phase, WAMI’s team gained an in-depth understanding of the customer’s product types, cutting accuracy requirements, production efficiency targets, and on-site conditions, and carried out targeted development and configuration accordingly. By adapting the cutting path planning, abrasive supply system, control precision, and worktable specifications, the equipment was aligned with the customer’s actual production workflow, achieving a close match between equipment capability and production line needs. This “develop-on-demand, configure-on-demand” approach has helped the customer improve processing quality while addressing issues such as high material waste and unstable yield control in previous processing methods, delivering multifaceted improvements to the customer’s production.

The WMT ECHO-1010 features an enclosed structure that effectively contains water mist and abrasive splatter during operation, improving the on-site working environment and reducing operational risks. It also facilitates routine maintenance and management, creating a more standardized and safer production environment for the customer.

This shipment reflects WAMI’s commitment to customer-focused solutions and its deep expertise in the waterjet cutting field. Going forward, WAMI will continue to develop more targeted cutting equipment and solutions around the production needs of customers across various industries, helping them achieve higher-quality manufacturing.
