To address this issue, it is important to first inspect the quality of the stone before performing waterjet cutting. At the same time, proper construction practices must be followed to prevent structural deformation under pressure, which can lead to the infiltration of corrosive gases and moisture into the joints. These steps help ensure the material’s stability after cutting.
Crystallized glass has been increasingly used as a decorative material, valued for its luxurious surface and its safe, eco-friendly characteristics. As a type of stone, it is naturally suitable for high-pressure waterjet cutting. However, in practical applications, it has been found that cutting crystallized glass with a high-pressure waterjet often leads to stress concentration issues.
This is particularly evident in L-shaped cuts, where cracks may begin to develop and propagate along the crystal surface, becoming progressively worse. Such occurrences indicate that excessive stress builds up during the cutting process, resulting in these undesirable effects.
Based on extensive hands-on experience, a solution has been identified: by pre-drilling a hole at the cut point using a glass drill, and then cutting outward along the line using a blade specifically designed for crystallized glass, stress concentration can be significantly reduced. This method also minimizes the risk of secondary surface cracking caused by internal stress.
